the weekly pin-it party featuring homeschooling and monster-talk!

welcome back to our weekly pin-it party!  we’re happy that you’ve stopped in.  i love our link-up!  every week, you link some pretty fantastic ideas, projects, testimonies, advice, and pieces of your own journeys.  i know we all look forward to checking out these pins and appreciate your participation!

if you missed last week’s link-up and want to peruse those pins as well, you can by clicking {here}.

here are a few from last week that hit home for me especially:

‘how to tell others you’re homeschooling’ by joy in the journey
friends and i have spoken often about our desires to homeschool our children.  i feel like if my husband and i did decide to take the plunge and homeschool, we’d probably hear some negative feedback.  reading the advice offered here definitely puts my mind at ease regarding that aspect.

our 2014-2015 preschool goals by creative home keeper
i honestly feel like i could have written this post myself.  thank you, victoria, for sharing, b/c it puts my similar situation/stage into words that actually make sense! πŸ™‚  i want to homeschool; hubby doesn’t.  my daughter will start a half-day program this year, and i am hoping to still ‘homeschool’ her on the other days we have together.  sometimes i think she’s over prepared, and sometimes i fear she’s under prepared, so i love this simple, concise list of objectives to kind of compare our own goals to.

’40+ ways to stop kids from being afraid of bedtime monsters’ by happy hooligans
a lot of good ideas here, and personal testimonies from parents.  we definitely stand behind the movie advice.  my kids are monsters inc. fans, and those movies have definitely allowed the children to see monsters in a different light.  and veggie tales…just love ’em too.  i think we own nearly every one, and they support important lessons and values that we try to encourage here.

we, at klover house, also pray over our children each night out loud and bless them and declare restful sleep and peaceful dreams.  i personally believe that there is power in our prayers, and the children hearing our prayers for them is empowering – even if they are too young to realize it.  bad dreams are few and far between in our house.  i can recall a night about two years ago.  ava (our oldest) came into my room around 10 or so (they go to bed between 7 and 8, so she had been asleep for some time), and said that ‘mr. joe’s car’ had woken her up and scared her.  we took that opportunity to turn the focus onto a positive and prayed and thanked God for her amazing hearing.  we also asked God to give her that restful sleep that she needed.

tips, tricks, and our pin-it party!

hello, my pin-it party friends!  i must admit, i haven’t been in the blogging/writing mood lately.  do you ever get into funks like that?  either my thoughts are too heavy or my day is too full.  one thing i can appreciate, though, during these times, is this party.  i love the variety of the pins.  i can find something to help soothe my heavy heart, something funny to ease my troubled thoughts, or something crafty or creative for when this mama-brain is plain ol’ fried and doesn’t want to think for itself.  πŸ˜‰  you know?

here are a couple pins that i especially liked from last week’s party:

this first one, ‘fabulous no-sew curtain panels’ from 3 little greenwoods, i have actually attempted myself in our previous home with some ikea fabric.  i wanted to make custom curtains for our sliding glass door on the cheap.  this trick worked well.  my only advice/warning/disclaimer would be that you may have some parts that come undone after washing (our curtains were white and washed often), so when i ironed them after washing, i had to add a little more tape to those sections.  realizing that, i kept it handy with my ironing supplies.  it’s a simple project, and i have found that target often has great deals on tablecloths, so you can create a spectacular panel for less $$$ and find some pretty unique designs that weren’t available in the curtain panel selection.

next up, another post that i stand by 100%, is this one, three tricks to managing laundry, from finding joy in the journey.  i have tried everything under the sun when it comes to a laundry system that works…assigned laundry days, weekends, washing everything in one day from sun up to sun down.  nothing…i repeat…NOTHING has worked for this family of five other than washing at least one load every single day.  every.single.day.  i finally got myself caught up.  even my husband noticed the clear floor in front of the washer/dryer and asked how i did it.  i took two days off this week, our oldest got sick and threw up on clothing, dolls, and two beds, and all of a sudden i am six loads behind again!  seriously.  this works.  if you wash your largest load every single day (and even your largest will probably be relatively small when you are doing this), you will stay on top of it.  i promise.  i like the breakdown that offers in the post.  i may try that, since i’m already washing daily.  no matter what, though, don’t skip days, unless you want to have to put the extra time in making up for it, and who has extra time?!  not me.

and on that note, time to throw a load in and get back to my family.  enjoy your weekend, friends.  talk to you soon!

a delicious recipe, a meaningful life-lesson, and a party!

good morning and happy saturday, pin-it party friends! if this is your first time joining us, welcome! glad to have you, and i am sure that you will find many great things here!

i know i have said it before, but one thing i appreciate about this pin-it party is the variety of pins that we find week after week!  this week, my features are totally different and from two very different styles of blogs.  i love that!

i read through this recipe and just knew immediately that i am on-board with KC’s cooking-style.  i love that she adds ingredients, not just for flavor, but for health’s sake as well!  that is right up my alley.  this rosemary, chipotle, raspberry, balsamic chicken sounds delicious, and i am eager to try it.  you can pin it for later {here} or view the recipe now {here}.

another pin that i enjoyed from last week’s party was this one, finding freedom in owning less, from tracy of our simple life.  i am learning, as my hubby and i are aging, having more children, growing in our faith, and trying to rid our lives of stress and debt, that less truly is more.  i love this short but mighty post, and her points are things that i am personally trying to put into practice here at klover house.  i love how she concludes:  “Now we spend our time looking for ways to live a more meaningful life on less.”  it can be hard, especially when others around you or close to you seem to have more exciting schedules or prettier things, but i am learning to look ahead, beyond the now.  who do i want to be in 20 years?  who do i want my children to be and what do i want them to desire and appreciate?  what do i hope our memories look like?  do i want to strive to fill my closet with beautiful clothes, or do i want to invest in the bigger things in life?  it’s a constant series of making tough choices, but it will be worth it.

pin-it party and two fabulous features!

good morning and happy saturday, pin-it party friends! if this is your first time joining us, welcome! glad to have you, and i am sure that you will find many great things here!

i found several pins from last week to be especially relevant to the things that i am dealing with as a mama of three very sweet, spirited, and strong-willed blondies.  πŸ™‚  the subject of one pin in particular lines up perfectly with a book that i recently read that i have found to be both helpful and challenging.  it’s all about buckle-down parenting.  no more excuses and using parenting techniques that get straight to the point.  the pin is this one, stop counting to 3 & start teaching responsibility, from stacy of huddlenet.com.

the book that i read is this one (affiliate link):
Have a New Kid by Friday, by Dr. Kevin Leman

another great pin, that i plan on revisiting closer to our vacation is this one, storytelling cubes travel set, from frog in a pocket.  i love this idea, and i already have the cubes!  i think, since my children are small, i will mod podge pictures of family members on the cubes along with pictures showing different activities, so that our stories will be silly, like “eden grace is riding a motorcycle with a piggy to the playground.”  funny pictures will make for silly stories!  thank you for the inspiration, anik!

pin-it party and how one mama makes working work from home!

hello again, pin-it party friends! if this is your first time joining us, welcome! i am sure that you will find many great things here! i have been saying hello this way for some time now, but it never gets old, b/c there are always new visitors! πŸ™‚ so, welcome!!!! and if you have been coming back week after week, thank you!!!!

one of last saturday’s most-viewed pins was this one, ‘how i make money from home’, from misty of joy in the journey. in her post, misty shares with us how she uses her passions to help bring in an income for her family.  i really relate, and i am sure a lot of you can as well!

you know, i have to say, one thing i love about these link parties, is that i can get a feel for our audience/participants based on the types of pins being put up every week and the most-viewed.  it seems that we are finding ourselves in a community of women here with similar passions, needs, challenges, joys, and faith.  i love that.  i know that if i am looking for something to read, or i need some inspiration, i can quickly peruse through your pins week after week, and find something that will spark my imagination, engage my mind, or even serve as the balm of gilead for my soul.  so, THANK YOU, friends!

pin-it party and a day off…

hello again, pin-it party friends!  if this is your first time joining us, welcome!  i am sure that you will find many great things here!  i have been saying hello this way for some time now, but it never gets old, b/c there are always new visitors!  πŸ™‚  so, welcome!!!!  and if you have been coming back week after week, thank you!!!!

one of last saturday’s most-viewed pins was this one, ‘a day of freedom, from cassandra of raising up stones.  i love this.  cassandra has consecrated her sundays back to God and has been adopting a day off from the ever-calling world of social media!  you go, mama!  i’m on your heels.  with my hubby home on the weekends, i generally try to steer clear of the internet anyway, but now that i am finally a smartphone owner, i can see that all of those little ‘hangouts’ are even easier to engage myself in at a moment’s notice.

about a year ago, i started getting a lot of heat from family members, b/c i let go of my phone more…i let my kids misplace it more often, i left it on the bedside table until lunchtime, i left it in the car while shopping or dining out with my husband and kids.  i heard quite a few remarks about being ‘hard to get ahold of’, but you know what?  i don’t want to be attached to my cell, and i don’t want to be attached to facebook, instagram, twitter, or gmail either.  i want to be attached to my husband, and my girls.  period.  so, i am going to disengage on sundays too, cassandra.  thanks for the inspiration! xo

3. add as many of your great pins as you want!  remember to get your pins from pinterest & not from your blog page. it will make it easier to re-pin a pin instead of a post.

4. hop around and re-pin other pins from this page- lets share the love!

5. adding your link gives us permission to use an image from the pin (or post connected to the pin) to feature on next week’s pin-it party. because of this we ask that you only link up images from your own site, and images that you have taken, created or have legal rights to.

thanks!!!! REMEMBER: when it asks for your NAME, you can put your PIN NAME or your BLOG NAME. essentially, it’s your pin’s title.

pin-it party and a reminder to refill daily ;)

hello again, pin-it party friends!  if this is your first time joining us, welcome!  i am sure that you will find many great things here!

one of last saturday’s most-viewed pins was this one, ‘refill please’, from cassandra of raising up stones, and boy, do i understand why.  as a wife and mother, myself, i am finding my heart longing more and more of time with God, and i am realizing more and more just how desperately i need it and Him.  i used to pray each morning during my commute to work as an elementary teacher – “God, give me patience and cover me with your grace and favor.  help me to hear your voice.”  every. day.  and on the mornings that i didn’t, i could really notice a chaotic difference in my mood and circumstances.  not that it was always smooth-sailing, but the days that i spent even a little time with the Holy Spirit were far more peaceful, and i handled the stress that comes with schedules, deadlines, little ones, and oodles of responsibility with so much more clarity, grace, sanity, and calmness.  how much more do i need those things as a mother?!  so much!  yet, i am constantly setting time with God aside – behind the chores and the kids and the meals and…and…and…everything, it seems.  thank you for the reminder, cassandra that i need to take my daily ‘refill’ with the utmost seriousness.  it is vital, and although it may seem at times like a sacrifice, it always comes with tremendous blessing.

participating in the party is so easy!
