I Am a Legend.

I Am a Legend.

Bold, huh? To call oneself a Legend…

But as I sat down last night, looking at this image on my phone, the sentence hit me like a bold whisper. It was like a messenger from heaven had slipped me a note as he whisked on to his next stop for the day. It was a revelation that quickly took residence in my brain, serving as a reminder as to who I am in that amazing child’s eyes.

I am a Legend.

Someday, when I am gone, they will talk about me. They will reminisce about me…

Remember how we were always late – for EVERYTHING – and Mom would ask if anyone had seen her phone as soon as her butt hit the front seat? She’d lecture us about watching TV in the mornings, and then we’d pray in the car for the day to get better. Her hair was always wet. Remember how she’d twist it in that crazy side bun?  Gosh. We could never find a hairbrush! She always found the time to make breakfast. Well, until she started buying those frozen De Wafelbakkers Chocolate Chip Pancakes…

And that’s where we are now…

Always late… Hair wet and usually unbrushed… Praying for patience, favor, and grace at every turn and eating microwaved pancakes as we run out the door…

And on the eve of my 36th birthday, the Holy Spirit called me a Legend.

A Day of Loving Well…

I may never do anything great in the eyes of society. I may never leave a lasting impression on the human race. But for these four beautiful girls, right now, I am everything, and someday, I will be remembered for many things – hopefully for much more good than bad.

I am a Legend, building a Legacy, and every day that I wake up in that understanding, that is a day in which I will love well.

Life is not about ourselves. Life isn’t even about our reputations. What marks a life most deeply is how you are remembered. What good are riches and rewards if you lived without compassion? What good is confidence if you lived without mercy? What good is a beautiful wardrobe if no one talks about the beauty of your soul when you become a memory?

1If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.(1 Corinthians 13:1-3)

Legends, Unfolding…

I think one of the greatest challenges I face in this stage of my life is the challenge of living in the now while simultaneously living for the future. And when I heard those words God breathed on my heart, I realized that my future is now. The way I live today, the way I love today, the smile I share today, the hugs I give today, the softness in my tone and the gentle patience in my gaze… that person I am right now will be the legacy. There is no need to fret and strive in order to become someone amazing or worth remembering. Being who you long to be right here in the present is the answer to that mystery. Making small choices all day long to love and live in the moment… that’s the secret to becoming a Legend. You are one already. You are a Legend, unfolding.

Happy Day, to You!

And so, as a part of my annual birthday tradition, I want to leave you with a gift today that has impacted my heart greatly. I recently had the opportunity to hug one of my own personal Legends, New York Time’s Best-Selling author and creator of The Hands Free Revolution, Rachel Macy Stafford. Her vulnerability and willingness to share her heart has helped shaped my own. I am confident that her words can inspire anyone, in any field, in any life stage, and of any gender. Her words speak to the heart of every human, and I am so blessed to have a beautiful, hardback, signed copy of her latest book, Only Love Today, for you.

And that’s not it! I will also be gifting this year’s Klover House Favorite Things Giveaway winner with a few more goodies. I am keeping them a surprise for now, but they’re good. I’ll give you a few clues… decor, bling, and some things for the soul. 🙂 You will love it!

An excerpt from Rachel’s amazing book:

So, in closing, I hope you are blessed today. I hope someone is kind to you. I pray that you feel loved today. I hope that you make someone smile and that someone makes you smile in return. I hope someone gives you a hug today. I hope you have time to dry your hair and that your kids don’t eat your chapstick. I hope the leaves are still beautiful where you are and that you enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea with good company. I wish a good day for you. That’s my birthday wish this year – a very good day for you, my fellow Legends. We’ll talk soon…

One thing that made me smile was Miriam’s crazy dancing last night, and she was walking around the house for a few minutes before bed singing, “Jesus calls me Princess.” I was really caught off guard, because she’s only two and a half, but it made my day.

Living “Hands Free” – Happy Launch Day!

June 30th of this year is a night I’ll remember so fondly for the rest of my life.

My husband and I were doing what we usually do after the kids surrender to bedtime – sitting next to one another on the couch, watching TV, checking e-mails, answering texts, etc… basically, finally catching up with the rest of the world after a long day of meeting the needs of others…

That’s when I opened a message that dropped my jaw to the floor.  I couldn’t help but beam like a little girl on Christmas morning as I read it aloud to my hubby.  Rachel Macy Stafford, New York Times Best-selling author of “Hands Free Mama” had written to me.  ME.  I couldn’t believe my eyes or the opportunity she was extending to me with such humble sweetness.

Her latest book, Hands Free Life: 9 Habits for Overcoming Distraction, Living Better, and Loving More was being officially released in September, today in fact, and she was asking if I would be interested in reading it prior to the launch date.

Not only is that an incredible honor in itself, but, friends, I have TWO books on my nightstand.  Just two.  And they have been there for over a year.  They are special to me.  I love them, which is why they aren’t on a shelf in our dining room or still in a box in our basement.  Two.

The Holy Bible and Hands Free Mama.

That’s it.

I joke that one’s my “life handbook” and the other is my “mama handbook,” but I’m really not joking.  Hands Free Mama changed my life.  The Hands Free Revolution posts on Facebook changed my life, my parenting, my perspectives.  When I read whatever Rachel Macy Stafford writes, it’s as if for those few moments, all of my chaos stands still and I bask in the glow of what could be, of what should be.  I feel the warmth that comes with the realization of how God wants me to mother cover my heart like a reassuring hug that says,

“You can do this.  You can do this well, and you can do this beautifully.”

So, of course I didn’t hesitate for even a moment before replying with a emphatic “Yes!”

And on August 3rd, the most beautiful gifts arrived in the mail – the book, Hands Free Life, a bracelet that I wear proudly every day, and a frame containing a copy of the most beautifully written “House Rules” I have ever read.  The box was so full of heart, so full of life, and so full of hope.

And that’s what it is giving me every time I pick it up – a big dose of heart, life, and hope.

live hands free

Since reading, I have been trying with intention to disconnect a little more each day from whatever it is that fills my mind, day, and even life with clutter.  We live in a world in which we face a distraction almost non-stop.  This book has given me practical ways to recognize that and to actually do something about it.

That’s part of the reason why this post is being written at 10 PM on “Launch Day” – I have been living all day.  I have been living all month!  It has been freeing and it has also been quite revealing.  My family needs me.  Your family needs you.  Your people need you.  Spouses, friends, children, co-workers, the bank teller, the cashier at Hobby Lobby, the mom next to you in the aisle at Target…   They need you.  They need you to notice, to be present, to be aware, to engage, to connect.

As Rachel Macy Stafford so perfectly phrased it, I had been suffering for far too long from a “connection-starved soul.”

Are you starving?

You don’t have to be.

Are your people starving?

They don’t have to be either.

Don’t be intimidated.  It’s possible.  It’s not too late.  You can breathe again.  You live again.  You can finally give yourself permission to let go of the anger and pressure that may be overwhelming you, suffocating you from the inside and robbing you of the chance to enjoy life’s “sacred moments,” to put down the To-Do lists long enough to hold your loved one’s hand or call a connection-starved friend.

Will you join me in living this beautiful life “hands free”?  Can you share with me your journey?  How your world is shifting too, thanks to the abundant “Daily Declarations” and “Habit Builders”?

I’ll be posting more about my own journey as I am reading this incredible and wise book, and I’ll let you in on how I am putting what I am learning into practice in my own life.

Because I am so passionate about her message and believe in it 100%, I am going to send one of my readers a copy of the book, Hands Free Life: 9 Habits for Overcoming Distraction, Living Better, and Loving More.

This post isn’t sponsored by anyone, and I haven’t been asked to give anything away; this is just me, Kristi, an overwhelmed mom, a tired spouse, a desperate daughter of God, who, possibly like you, wants to live and love fully, and is just wanting the same chance for you.  Please share this opportunity with others that you may know who would benefit from this great book and enter yourself below.

And, Rachel Macy Stafford, if you read this, let me just say for the umpteenth time…THANK YOU!  Thank you for sharing your heart, your wisdom, and your story with us.  We needed you and your voice.  This book matters.  Your message matters.  You are changing lives, shifting atmospheres, and shepherding the hearts of many women (and men) around the world.  For that, and especially because I am one of them, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. (Proverbs 27:17)

a lovely day, every girl’s dream, and anthro candles galore!

Today was such a great day. Nothing crazy happened. Just a great day spent with two of my three girls (well, three of my four girls, if you count belly-bambina). Anyway, I told the girls last night that I wanted to take them to Story Time this morning, so that was the plan. Story Time, Trader Joe’s and home for the day.

Well, I got a text from my mother-in-law this morning asking to take my oldest for a few hours. She will occasionally take each child for a little special one-on-one time, and the girls love it – much like they love our ‘dates’. I have learned that the special time we purposely give to each of the kids fills their love tanks tremendously. It is so good for everyone.

I asked Ava if she wanted to head to Story Time with me or hang out with Nanny for the day. “Nanny.” No hesitation. See? I told you that they adore that special attention! So, Nanny came and got Ava, and Isla, Eden and I headed out as well.

Our first stop of course was Pottery Barn Kids. We were about 15 minutes late and just missed the Halloween story. I felt really badly about it, until I saw the Halloween books. I didn’t feel so bad after that, and I took them to a quiet spot in the store and read them Christmas stories myself. They sat so intently and loved every minute.

After our own personal ‘story time’, I told Isla she could play with the doll house castle out on display. She was in a state of total bliss. I couldn’t blame her, though. I posted a few things on my Instagram account about it this morning. The setup of the newest decor was just breath-taking. It made me wish I could just hit the lotto and bring it all home. (Too bad I don’t play the lotto…) It was gorgeous. She was having so much fun playing that I couldn’t bare to pull her away, so I put our Trader Joe’s plans aside and let her just enjoy her play time a little longer. We were probably in there for nearly an hour.

I only got her to agree to an Anthropologie run and lunch by promising that we’d come back to the dollhouse before heading home. They were such troopers in Anthro. It helps that they love all-things-girlie, just like me, so Isla quickly took to her usual practice of handing me every.single.candle. (That is, after she took the initial smell, of course, and offered her opinion.) “This one smells like (insert a made-up-word here), mama. Smell. Eden, you want to smell?” Over and over. We smelled every candle in the store. Sometimes we smelled them two or three times if they were found in different sizes/jars.

Thanks to her affinity for candles, I was able to smell our Boulangerie Jar Candles (that are featured in the giveaway this week). Friends, they are divine. I thought going in that I would love the Pumpkin Souffle the most, hands-down, but I surprised myself! I also thought I’d love the Whipped Cream & Pear, b/c of all of the excellent reviews, but… my two favorites turned out to be the Angel Food and the Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon. The Angel Food smelled just like it’s name. Delicious. Sweet. Delicate. Loved it! The Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon reminded me of Christmas. In the end, it won. I would have gotten both, but I had already been sold on the Amaretto Orange that I discovered in the Sale ‘cave’. Just $9.95, plus and additional 25% off! Isla kept putting candles in our stroller. I would convince her to put them back, but another would quickly take its place. I finally agreed to one of her selections – the Capri Blue Volcano candle in the bright red mini jar. It has a pleasing, sweet smell that I thought would compliment the spice of the Christmas scents, so I caved.

Here’s a peek at our finds:

{I also came across this ‘Embroidered Petals’ iPhone 5 case by Jasper & Jeera in the Sale room, and again, it was an extra 25% off of the already marked-down price.  I was too cheap to buy a $30 one at the Verizon store, so this seemed perfect!  It’s my style, it’s unique, it’s leathery, and fuzzy, and glammed up all at once!
Hopefully hubby will be thrilled that I finally have something on it.}

I was also able to find some beautiful and soft tops that would wear well over this very pregnant belly. I am all about the “Angel of the North” cardigans, but when I saw this “Moth” brand cardigan, I fell in love. It was one of the first things I picked up. I looked at the price tag though and quickly returned it to the rack, bummed. Everyone that knows me knows that I love Anthro most of any store, so for my birthday each year, I am usually blessed with a gift card or two. This year, it was three, and I was elated to make the most of it! Anthro gives you 15% off your total purchase of regular price items during your birthday month, plus all of their sale items are currently an additional 25% off, as I mentioned earlier, so I was determined to make my gift cards stretch. Knowing that I would carefully peruse the entire store prior to jumping to my first love, I decided that I would see what else I could find, and if I could still afford the sweater, I would get it.

Well…I did just that! And I still have a good balance leftover for another day! Yay!

{My incredibly soft clothing finds}

I tried to get Isla to go back in with me after we had already paid, b/c the Cedar & Balsam candle in the rectangular mercury glass was saying, “Take me too!” But, she wouldn’t have it. “I want to eat lunch…NOW!” I couldn’t blame her for that either, so I let her drag me away to Panera. 😉

Our experience this time was drastically different than the last (that had me nearly in tears, b/c Ava and Isla were literally wrestling on the floor while I was trying to order – yes, girls do that nonsense too). Isla stood so nicely next to the stroller; Eden wasn’t having any meltdowns, even though she was well past naptime. I ordered our meals and we sat in a quiet corner. As I sat down, Isla said something to me that was just the cherry on the top of the whole day. I almost missed understanding it, b/c of her cute speech (she’s three), but I’m so glad that it registered. She said to me, “I am having a good day with you, Mommy.”

I melted.

I almost always have all three girls everywhere that we go, and Isla is the quieter of the three. So, I rarely get to have true conversations with her without Ava finishing her sentences or changing the subject. It was so amazing to have this special time with her and to collect a moment that will stay in my heart until I am old and gray. That was awesome to hear as her mama.  I practically floated back to PBKids.  (I kept my promise and allowed her about 10 more minutes of doll house euphoria.  Don’t tell, but I think they are getting a dollhouse for Christmas.  Not that one, b/c it’s way more expensive than many great alternatives, but I can already tell it’s going to be a huge hit.)

Anyway, just wanted to record this day, b/c it was purely lovely, and I wanted to fill you in on the candles. You seriously can’t go wrong. Every scent seemed to hold true to its name. No surprises. They were all delicious. I think you will be pleased. So, if you haven’t yet…head back over to the giveaway post and enter for a chance to win your own! So fun! The Rafflecopter will close at midnight on Friday morning, and I will announce the winner around 11AM, so spread the word with your friends too! Thanks, as always, for reading. Until next time… xo

Oh, and did you notice that I have been capitalizing regularly in these last few posts?!  lol  What has gotten into me?!  (You can read about that little blog oddity in my ‘About Me’ section.)

annual (anthro) giveaway! (it’s my birthday present to YOU!)

Hello, friends!  Ok, I know I said an ‘appropriate’ hour on our Facebook page, but I have been such a flake today!  Well, actually, I spent the day being a good mom (and wife)!  haha  Imagine that!  I made Pioneer Woman’s Chicken and Noodles from scratch, hung out with the kids, did some more laundry, kept the house somewhat together, did the whole preschool thing, stopped at our church to pick up a book for the hubs…  Will I ever be a lady who can function as wifey, mama, and blogger all in the same 24 hours???  Maybe someday…

Anyway, here is the giveaway!  I wanted to get to Anthro today to smell these in person (going to try again tomorrow), but they got great reviews.  The item I have chosen is the Boulangerie Jar Candle by Illume.

{Description from Anthro of these candles:  With a 20-year legacy, Minnesota-based fragrance label Illume is best known for its luxuriously-scented, clean-burning candles. Each signature scent is crafted by hand from all-natural, food-grade ingredients like coconut wax and essential oils, creating an inviting atmosphere wherever one is lit. The mouthwatering aromas of French desserts arise from vintage Parisian pottery replicas.}

Since it will be shipped directly from www.anthropologie.com, you can have your choice of scents, which include:

  • Pumpkin Souffle
  • Oatmeal Cookie
  • Angel Food
  • Vanilla & Fig
  • Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon
  • Whipped Cream & Pear
I cannot wait to smell these!  Don’t they sound amazing???!

So, simply follow the Rafflecopter form below and enter for your chance to win!  Imagine this burning in your kitchen.  Lovely stuff!

Thanks so much for reading the blog.  Thank you for your support of me on this journey, and thanks for entering my annual birthday giveaway (where I chose a favorite thing – usually from Anthro 🙂 – and gift it to you!).  Enjoy your week!  Winner will be announced on the 31st at 11AM!  xo!

stitch fix october (oh dear, the ‘selfie’)

 ok, sweeties.  here we go…

stitch fix is awesome.
(they are not paying me to say that by the way!!!)

i live on a very teeny budget when it comes to clothing.  i almost always shop from the target clearance rack.  seriously.

hello, stitch fix!
remember i mentioned it in this post a few weeks ago?  it was certainly a good find!  a big thank you to angelique of where the piggy toes go for introducing me, and now, i’m passing along this sweet find to you!

it’s super simple.

this link will take you to stitch fix.
once you sign up, you will answer a ton of questions regarding your style and what you are looking for…apparel, jewelry, accessories, outerwear…all of the above!

you’ll pick your price range.
(note mine is ‘the cheaper, the better’).

you’ll set your date.  (i would recommend that you don’t put it off too long, b/c they’re already booking into december!)  i subscribed for a monthly ‘fix’, so i’ll receive a package every 30 days.  as you can see in the pictures i’ve uploaded for you, you can reschedule or cancel your shipment at any time.  you don’t have to become a monthly subscriber.  you can order whenever you want!

here are a few screenshots of some of the questions you’ll be asked to answer in order to give your personal stylist a better idea of your wants, needs, tastes, and size…

and here is what i received!
it was like christmas morning for this mama…

normally, i wouldn’t have taken the time to try either of these on in a store, but this process gave me an opportunity to try new things and diverse styles.  i was really surprised at how much i liked everything!

that’s supposed to say ‘gorgeous and soft’, and boy, was it ever!  i really, really liked everything about the dolman top.  i nixed it b/c the hubby liked another better, and he’s got the paycheck.  😉

and on each piece, you’ll find a ‘polyvore-style’ tag that offers outfit inspiration!  love.

i apologize for the pics – i did this on the hubster’s phone.
(our new camera is coming from new zealand or australia…pray it’s not a scam for our sake.  mama really misses having a camera.)

i swooned over the hot raspberry color of this next top, and it was the least expensive item in the box, so i was really wanting to keep it.  had it been the longer length all of the way around, i would’ve kept it in a heartbeat.

i especially liked the neckline and button embellishments.  after having three babies, my arms are my only assets!  ha!  (and you get to tell them in the questionnaire which body parts you want to show off or keep hidden.
my belly and i like that option a lot.)

these skinny jeans were incredibly soft.  like,  ‘i want to make a teddy bear out of you or a pillowcase’ soft.  so.soft.  did i mention that they were soft?  oh man, they were soft.  they were too long, which was good, b/c they were out of the price range that i was looking for, so the length made our ‘good-bye’ a little easier.  so soft… *sigh*

this one.  he loved this one, and so did i, so the choice was easy!  it was so soft too.  i like soft.  haha

so, let’s talk money.
you will pay a $20 stylist fee upfront.
that $20 will go towards your final purchase.  if you don’t want to purchase anything, your $20 will remain a stylist fee.

if you consider that someone is doing the work behind the sceens…looking into your LinkedIn profile, your pinterest boards (if you choose to make those available to them), and searching out items specifically for you, it really is a great deal.  plus, it goes towards your purchase, so you’re not paying for the clothes and a separate fee on top!

if you choose to purchase the entire box,
you’ll receive a 25% discount.
to help you understand what that looks like…
the jeans in my box alone were $88, but if i wanted the whole sha-bang, i would’ve paid $210 for the whole box (5 items).  the value of my box was $300, so that’s a $90 difference – essentially, a ‘free’ pair of jeans!

i told you that i am on a teeny budget, though, so i was looking to stay as close to $50 as possible.  the hi-lo pink blouse was $38, so it would’ve just cost me an additional $18, had i chosen it.

the sweater i did choose would have easily cost me around $70-$80 at a retailer like the limited, for example, but i ended up paying $58 (my $20 fee and $38 tonight), which i think is fair for a sweater of such uniqueness and high quality.

all of the shipping is already included.

the brands are unique and new, and most of my items were made in the usa, which i love!

probably every question you could think of is addressed on their faq page, so go on and take a peek!

and if you have any questions for me, i’d be happy to talk about it with you further!

so there you have it!  it’s soooo simple.
it’s a blast to skip the craziness of the mall and just try pieces on at your own pace.  my husband watched football while i played dress-up, and the kids were in bed, so it was heavenly!

if you use this link, i will receive a referral credit, and guess what i want to do…share!!!

if i receive any referral credit $$ from sharing this awesome company with you, i plan to turn it into a giveaway!  depending on the amount, if any, i will offer a gift card or a piece from my next fix!  why not share the love?!  so if you end up signing up through my link, let me know!  and i’ll return the love!  be blessed to be a blessing…be a blessing, be blessed!  here’s the link again to get started.

enjoy!!!  please share your experience and feedback with me!  have fun! xoxoxo

birthday linky party and giveaway!

i don’t know about you, but one of the times i am most on pinterest, is when i am planning a party!  birthday parties these days seem to be all about the ‘theme.’  how am i capturing this stage in my child’s life?  what do they love?  sock monkeys?  princesses?  soccer?  whatever it is…there are a gazillion pieces of inspiration out there for us as parents planning ‘the shin-dig of all shin-digs’ for our tots ‘n taters, right?

i’m one of those moms who would love to go all-out, but alas, reality sets in, and i realize i don’t have an immeasurable amount of time or money to put into these big days.  but i ‘pin’ ideas like nobody’s biz-ness.  you?  😉

in all seriousness, though, i have gotten so much inspiration and motivation from all of the ideas, posts, and products i’ve been exposed to through blogs and shops i’ve found over the years.  i have a ton of creative bones in my body, but not always the ‘superhuman’ package to go with them, so our parties are usually middle-of-the-road as far as cost and effort.  i’ve learned, through some trial and error, that what matters most is that little one you are celebrating, so don’t put an insane amount of pressure on that big day or yourself.  i hope you find some things here that make the whole process even easier for you come party time!

that said…welcome to the birthday linky party, where we’ll be linking up all of our birthday-related posts and pins.  link to a post from your blog, or a pin, or even an entire pinterest board.  i’ll be linking up my posts and boards as well!

i am certain you’ll find something helpful / wonderful / interesting here!  i’ve got a princess party coming in december, so i’ll personally have an eye out for those links!  thanks in advance for sharing!

isla’s ‘beauty and the beast’ birthday party!

i am so excited to share our latest birthday party with you!
our sweet, isla (‘eye-la’) rae (‘ray’) turned the big TWO!
i can’t believe how quickly this last year has gone by!
our little cutie pie absolutely adores her ‘belle and beeee,’
as she calls them.  them being ‘beauty and the beast.’
if you have daughters and speak toodler-ese,
then you know exactly who i’m talking about, right?!
being our summer baby, we never know what we’re going to get weather-wise,
but we always plan for an outdoor party.  for both her first and second birthday,
we picked a quaint, little, local park.  easy to get to, clean, and, with its
mini rock-climbing ‘mountain,’ swings, playground, ballfied, and bike/walking path,
it’s also the perfect place for little ones (and big ones) to be entertained!  🙂
last year, it was so hot, you could cook a hotdog on the pavement.
this year, we had rain, and rain, and rain, and more rain…
so, in case the equipment was too yucky, we had some additional
supplies in-tow:  cornhole, bubbles/bubble wands, and giant rubber balls
*the giant balls were $3/ea. at target & the bubble supplies were from the dollar store.*
here’s a glimpse of the party & all the details:
favors & centerpieces:
i loved this stuff!  the stuff you see below was custom-made by the shop,
‘created to play.’  you can find them on etsy {here}.  and you can also
check out their facebook page {here}.
the incredible pretzel rods were also custom-made by a shop i love called,
chocolate apple orchard.  you can find it on facebook {here}, and you
can visit their website {here}.  they are soooo amazingly delicious and pretty!
she also does custom orders and flavor combos.  these pretzels aren’t to be
taken lightly…they are dipped in caramel before they are drenched and drizzled
in chocolates and toppings!  omgoodness.  ‘tasty’ is like an insult.
they are sooo good, you will consider pretending you forgot to hand them out.
i was a good girl, and i gave them to isla’s guests.
(but if you didn’t come, i ate it.  don’t hate.)
favors consisted of several items:
a large bouncy ball (i purchased these from a giant ‘gum ball’ machine in
old navy, of all places! i mentioned that back in this post.)

items from the dollar store…princess washcloths (the kind that open in water),
bracelets, toothbrushes (for ava and isla)

“smarties” and “dum dums.” okay, that’s funny.
i just realized that i gave the kids an oxymoron in treats…
totally not on purpose, but actually kind of funny.

princess tattoos…boys got slim-pickins, b/c i had to cut the ‘friends’
away from their princesses, so the boys would have non-girlie options.
like, i cut ‘flounder’ away from ariel…the frog away from tiana…
‘pascal,’ the lizard from rapunzel…yeah, i did that.

belle squinkie rings (found in the clearance bin at target!) i super-glued the squinkie
to the ring, so that they would be less of a choking hazard, and i made sure to only
give them to the older children of the group…i tried anyway.
yes.  i did all of this in love.  🙂

chocolate apple orchard also made this custom ‘belle’ apple!  it blew me away!
i think it was one of my favorite aspects of the party details…
party prep / supplies / food:
last year, isla’s party was “sunshine” themed, so i had a lot of yellow items
leftover to use for this one (belle’s dress is yellow).  i keep all of our party goods in a
large tote all year long.  if it’s not perishable, it’s here.  easy storage.  easy transport.  good.
those large, yellow, rubber tubs were found somewhere last year (target maybe?).
i like to use them to carry stuff to the party location, and then, i fill them with ice and drinks.
last year (remember i said it was hot?), the kids also used them as ‘baby pools.’  fun times.  🙂
food for somewhere between 30 and 50 mouths:
hamburgers and hotdogs (50 of each, and we make our own patties to cut costs)
buns (50ish of each – remember most little ones won’t need one anyway)
pasta salad (made by my m-i-l.  so yummy.  she made 2lbs)
lemon bars (my mom makes these – recipe {here}.  these are amazing!)
brownies (i made four boxes…roughly 100 sm. squares.  the 85 that i ate were delicious!)
brownies were on clearance for 92 cents a box!  score!
i use coffee in place of the water.  it’s better that way.  we’re already letting our kids
gorge themselves with sugar at parties… 1/50 of a 1/4 cup of caffeine won’t hurt, right?!
TWO boxes baked together on a cookie sheet for exactly 20 mins yields about 50 squares.
some additional ‘keep it easy’ ideas…
‘beauty and the beast’ themed balloon anchors.
i bought four gold anchors
and four red, silk roses w/wired stems (on clearance), and attached each rose
to a base.  wrapped it w/coordinating ribbon.  done.
(sorry you can’t see the entire thing in the collage.
mama messed up, and i’m hanging up my ‘perfectionist’
hat for the day.  maybe even for a week…)
favor box:
i put all of the favor boxes in a cardboard box, and
i made myself a little chart with a sharpie, so that i could grab the appropriate
favor box as quickly as possible.  (each box was catered to each child’s gender & age.)
drinks and labels:
rather than spend a ton of money on cans or bottles of teas / pops / ades…
we purchased four jugs of drinking water, removed the labels
(had i not saved this for the last minute, i would’ve done a better job),
and used clear packing tape to affix our coloring page labels.
hubby thinks i was just looking for an excuse to color…  😉
maybe.  or maybe our printer was packed and out of ink anyway…
then, i just poured the water into a pitcher with each mix and redistributed
the beverages back into their appropriate containers.  this way, you just
dispose of them when the party’s over.  i vote recycle, btw.  🙂

the cake:
ahhh…the cake.  i adore these cakes.  literally slices of heaven.
thank you so much, adam and joanna for exposing us to this
incredible italian buttercream!  i ate way too much of this, too,
but it is seriously so good.  i will probably buy their cakes forever.
jury’s still out though on which is better…chocolate or raspberry filling.
i vote raspberry (last year’s choice), and hubs says chocolate (this year’s).
i think we should try raspberry again in october, just to see…  😉
two good things about this year’s cake:
1) a quarter of a sheet is plenty (compared to the whole sheet cake that i ordered
last year.  we were passing out brick-sized pieces and still brought some home!)
2) they spelled her name right this year!  last year, she was “ilsa.”  oops.
the last little tidbits:
the girls’ matching ‘belle’ t-shirts, crown, and the beauty and beast figurines were
all purchased at the disney store.  they were pricey, but still inexpensive
in comparison to the things i was finding on etsy.  plus, t-shirts were
perfect for a rainy-day-at-the-playground party…
the figurines doubled as part of isla’s gift from us.  the two shown
also came with some of the other characters from the movie.
i hope you enjoyed this post!  i know i don’t
get as into it as some, but i try my best to
keep it relevant, fun, and very low-cost.
splurges for this party came in the form of disney store items, the treats
and the cake.  everything else was so inexpensive that it all balanced out.
that’s what’s most important.  balance.  and fun.
you’ll remember the budget, but your babies will remember the FUN!  🙂
stay tuned for our ‘birthday party’ themed giveaway
coming NEXT week!!!
i’ll give you a clue…
it starts with a “minnie” and ends with a “mouse!”
